Bolton by Bowland Fell Race
Report for 5/12/2010
Despite the fact that the Bolton by Bowland fell race was omitted in error from the FRA race calendar along with the severe weather conditions, we were nevertheless able to welcome 128 runners to the village.
The recent overnight temperatures of minus 12 presented problems in fixing the flags to the course but the lying snow covering meant that this year’s race was the cleanest over the last 24 years. Consequently, the tin bath was not required.
After bowing to Ian Holmes in last year’s race, Tom Cornthwaite dominated this year’s race from the off. Tom Addison came through for a fine 2nd place holding off Josh Tighe in 3rd & cousin Mark Addison in 4th. Sarah Yeomans was untroubled, returning home as 1st lady with Emma Gregory taking 2nd place.
In spite of the low entry, we still managed to create a profit of £432, which is to be donated to the village hall to help maintain the facilities.
